It’s hard to believe we are already preparing for the 2026 season at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts (SICA)! As we look ahead, we also want to take a moment to reflect on what an exciting and successful year 2025 was for our art center. Special thanks to the Indiana Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Columbus Area Arts Council, and the Community Foundation of Jackson County for their continued support.

Throughout the year, SICA hosted an incredible variety of artists in our gallery spaces, featuring mediums such as wood burning, quiltwork, watercolor, oil painting, and sculpture. Our Friday Night Live concert series returned with warm weather, bringing talented musicians to our outdoor stage alongside local artists and food trucks. We also welcomed young creatives during four successful weeks of Kids Summer Art Camp, centered around the theme The Art of Recycling. In the fall, the Artful Affair fundraiser weekend made its much-anticipated return, featuring a lively, free family event and a memorable adult-only evening celebrating the arts.

We closed out the year with an exciting new addition: our Red Roof Studio now includes a fully equipped photography studio available for rent. Thanks to the generous donations from Marshall Memories Photography, the space offers professional lighting, backdrops, and equipment; plus a unique opportunity to train with a veteran photographer. Renting is now available to book through our website.

As we move into 2026, SICA will continue offering art workshops, private lessons, and opportunities to host private group art events. Betty Johnson will also continue pottery instruction in our Pottery Barn on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This open studio time is welcome to all, with the option to reserve a spot by calling or texting (812) 522-2278 or signing up online at soinart.com.

We invite you to renew or begin a SICA membership and enjoy the many benefits it offers. Members receive discounts on workshops, private lessons, and Pottery Barn time, as well as access to our new photography studio. Membership also includes early access to gallery openings, giving you the first look at new exhibits and more opportunities to connect with featured artists. Additionally, members receive early registration access for Kids Summer Art Camp which fills up quickly!

Memberships can be renewed in person during operating hours, by mailing payment to the center, or online through our website. If you have any questions, ideas for programming, or interest in volunteering, please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d love to hear from you. Thank you for being part of the SICA community. We look forward to another inspiring year together.

Sincerely,

Silas Cheo
SICA Director
