Don Hill has been involved with SICA since he retired form teaching in 1991. Mr. Hill taught art and industrial arts in the Seymour Junior High and High Schools for 33 years. Prior to his coming to Seymour, Mr. Hill was born and raised in Fort Branch, Indiana in the southwest corner of the state. He served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge he attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees.
During his years in Seymour he has served all the offices in the Elks Lodge including several years as State Americanism chairman. He has entertained schools and social groups with his presentations of poems and stories of the Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley, throughout the state during his retirement. He was awarded the state's highest civilian honor, receiving the "Sagamore of the Wabash" in 1998 from Governor Frank O'Bannon. Don has mainly concentrated on the Building and Grounds of SICA, working to restore the Crafts Barn, designing and creating the Antique Print Shop, caring for the Minutes to Memories Garden and carrying out the improvements to the physical property. He has served on the Board of Directors and now volunteers as the Associate Director.
