Summer Art Camps Cost for art camps is $30 per week for members. The camper may be the member. Individual Memberships cost $25. Family Memberships are $50. SICA includes grandparents and grandchildren in the definition of family. We were able to reduce the cost this year due to corporate grants. We wish to thank the Jackson County Community Foundation, Duke Energy, and UCB, the parent company of Schwarz Pharma.

Scholarships are available. Please call the Art Center at 522-2278.

There is a limit of 40 children per week of camp. We will do our best to accommodate all children wanting to enroll in the camps. It may be that when a week is full you will be offered an alternate week or put on a waiting list. We cannot hold a spot in a certain camp for registrants who have not paid the SICA membership and camp tuition. We do have an “overflow” possibility that will involve afternoons.

The age groups are not absolute. For example, a first grader may attend a grade 2 – grade 5 with an older sibling also attending. Any student who has attended the “First Camp” as a kindergartener last year may attend a grade 2 – grade 5 camp this year. A fifth grader is allowed to attend the grade 6 – grade 12 camp if that simply fits the student’s schedule better. We realize that transportation situations also may help decide which age group camp will be best and we will be agreeable with a parent’s decision.

Students are encouraged to wear clothes that are appropriate for painting while at camp. SICA cannot be held liable for paint getting on clothes. We use water based paints, but sometimes art camp is messy.

The pottery segment of the Art Camp will not be completed during camp week. Teachers will estimate when the students may pick up their project after it is fired. Parents are encouraged to show pride in their child’s pottery project and come back to get that project after the firing is completed.

Snacks will be served to the campers and if your child has special needs (for example – no peanut butter), then the parent is requested to please provide the snack.

Students should not bring any items to art camp not requested by the teacher.

After determining the preferred week of camp, click on the application for that week. You may also click the Membership Application if you are not a member. Fill out the forms and mail to the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts at 2001 N Ewing St Seymour, IN 47274. A confirming email will be sent when your camper’s enrollment is complete.

Craft Painting
We want to try to start a new group of artists interested in painting on surfaces other than canvas.  This area is often called “crafts painting”.  Remember the saws with the mill scene that was so popular a few years back.  We would like to have a teacher to keep this group organized – but we do not have to have a teacher.  If someone would like to organize this group we will provide the space for a craft painting group to meet.

Preschool Classes
We have two preschool classes here at SICA, a music class and an art class.  Students should plan to bring their parent (or other adult) with them to the class.  Any age preschooler may attend as long as they are not interrupting the class to the point that others can’t enjoy the class.  Some two year olds can do that and some four year olds cannot.  The parent is the one that decides.

Tuition is paid by the “quarter”.  Please pay for a session of three months.  The first quarter of this school year is September, October, and November.  There will be no classes in December.  The second quarter will be January, February, and March.  The third quarter will be April, May and June.  There will be no classes in July or August.  Tuition is either $10 (for members of SICA) or $15 (for non-members).  When an entire quarter is paid there is a slight reduction in the cost.

Members may enroll in both the music and the art classes (a total of six classes) for the quarter at a tuition of $50 for members or $75 for nonmembers.  This is like getting one class for free.  Or if only one class is desired, a $5 discount is given for enrolling in all three music classes or all three art classes. That cost is $25 for members and $40 for non-members. These tuition prices are offered on the first class meeting of the quarter only.

It is a must that students register for these classes in advance.

Preschool Art Class
The preschool art class is taught by Mrs. Kay Fox and is held on the last Friday of the month from 10:00 to 11:00 or 1:00 to 2:00 at the Art Center. Tuition is $10.00 for those who are family members of the Art Center and $15.00 for non-members. Advance registration is required. Dates for the Winter Quarter are January 30, February 27, and March 27. The Spring Quarter class will meet April 24, May 29, and June 26. The preschool classes will not meet during July and August. The Fall Quarter class will meet on September 25, October 30, and November 27. Paying for the entire quarter is priced at $25 for members and $40 for non-members. Please call the Art Center at 522-2278 if you have any questions. You may bring the Preschool Art Class Registration Form to the first meeting.

Preschool Music Class
Mrs. Bridget Grant and Mrs. Bridey Jacobi will teach our preschool music class. The class will usually be held on the second or third Friday of the month. The morning class will meet from 10:00 to 11:00 and the afternoon class meets from 1:00 to 2:00 at the Art Center. Tuition is $10.00 per class for those who are family members of the Art Center and $15.00 for non-members. A $5.00 discount is given for paying for three months. Advance registration is required. Dates for the Winter Quarter classes are January 16, February 13, and March 13. Members can get these three classes for $25 and non-members $40. The Spring Quarter classes will meet on April 10, May 15, and June 12. The class will not meet during July and August. The Fall Quarter dates are September 11, October 16, and November 13. Please call the Art Center at 522-2278 if you have any questions.

SICA has a wide variety of activities available throughout the year.

I Want To Sing A Song
This class is available to aspiring singers at no charge. Students will
prepare a song of their choosing to be performed on a Friday Night Music at the Center program this summer. Hopefully a live band will be available for our performances.

Check out our other activities!

Pottery
SICA pottery is located in the Don Hill Crafts and Pottery Barn. Potter's wheels, kilns, and slab working areas are available during the Saturday afternoon sessions. A minimal fee is charged for materials. A qualified potter takes beginners and experienced potters alike through excercises of various techniques in throwing, forming, glazing and firing.

Open Studio
Our classroom studio is open to members who enjoy setting up an easel and doing their own thing. Our "Wednesday Group" is a group which likes to work together so they can share lunch and do their art work. Many say they get more done with friends than they would at home by themselves. You may come and visit or try your hand at something. They are always willing to help the beginner get started. They meet on Wednesday at noon. We encourage other groups to organize so that we may have "Tuesday Groups, Thursday Groups, Friday Groups, Saturday Groups, etc."

Outreach Programs
The Art Center provides teachers and docents into classrooms in the area to present a variety of programs. The Art Smart program is one of our main programs. It is a slide program giving a history of certain periods of art and artists. Other Art teachers actually teach units in the classroom. We have artists who attend career days at schools and explain to students about careers in art. Interested in participating in Outreach Programs? Contact the art center at (812) 522-2278

Music Recitals
The Art Center has an Acrosonic piano available to members for practice and for piano recitals. The main gallery has a niche which is a perfect area for performers. The wood floors add to the quality of the acoustics. Recitals and musical programs are scheduled throughout the year. Piano teachers who might be interested in using the Center for a recital should call 522-2278 to make arrangements.

Private Lessons
Qualified art teachers offer private lessons in a variety of media. Both children and adults can enjoy weekly hour-long lessons fitted to the student's age and ability. The students may select their media of choice. Costs are minimal. Call the SICA office for more information and scheduling.
