Summer Art Camps
Cost for art camps is $30 per week for members of the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts. The camper may be the member. Individual Memberships cost $25. Family Memberships are $50. SICA includes grandparents and grandchildren in the definition of family. We were able to reduce the cost of camps last year and again this year due to corporate grants.
Scholarships are available. Please call the Art Center at 522-2278.
There is a limit of 40 children per week of camp. We will do our best to accommodate all children wanting to enroll in the camps. It may be that when a week is full you will be offered an alternate week or put on a waiting list. We cannot hold a spot in a certain camp for registrants who have not paid the SICA membership and camp tuition.
The age groups are not absolute. For example, a first grader may attend a grade 2 – grade 5 with an older sibling also attending. Any student who has attended the “My First Art Camp” as a kindergartener last year may attend a grade 2 – grade 5 camp this year. A fifth grader is allowed to attend the grade 6 – grade 12 camp if that simply fits the student’s schedule better. We realize that transportation situations also may help decide which age group camp will be best and we will be agreeable with a parent’s decision.
Students are encouraged to wear clothes that are appropriate for painting while at camp. SICA cannot be held liable for paint getting on clothes. We use water based paints, but sometimes art camp is messy.
The pottery segment of the Art Camp will not be completed during camp week. Teachers will estimate when the students may pick up their project after it is fired. Parents are encouraged to show pride in their child’s pottery project and come back to get that project after the firing is completed.
Snacks will be served to the campers and if your child has special needs (for example – no peanut butter), then the parent is requested to please provide the snack.
Students should not bring any items to art camp not requested by the teacher.
After determining the preferred week of camp, click on the application for that week. You may also click the Membership Application if you are not a member. Fill out the forms and mail to the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts at 2001 N Ewing St Seymour, IN 47274. A confirming email will be sent when your camper’s enrollment is complete.
My First Art Camp
My First Art Camp is a four-day camp for kindergarteners and first graders to be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, June 8, 9, 10 and 11 from 9:00 to 12:30 each day. There is a possibility that these times will be adjusted if enrollment is unusually low. We will certainly let you know as it gets closer to camp week. Parents are welcome to stay with their camper – but not required. Students will be doing an art class and a pottery class each day. The pottery class could use some extra help from some parents.
Grades 2 through 5 Art Camp
These three weeks of camp are held Monday through Friday, from 9:00 to 12:30. Students will attend four different art medium classes, including painting, music and pottery.
Week Two – June 21 through June 25
Week Two has a full enrollment.
Week Three – June 28 through July 2
Week Three has a full enrollment.
Grades 6 through 12 Teen Camp
Teen Camp is a four-day camp for students in grades 6 through 12 to be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, July 6, 7, 8, and 9 from 1:00 to 4:30 each day. There is a possibility that these times will be adjusted if enrollment is unusually low. We will certainly let you know as it gets closer to camp week. Students will be doing art classes and pottery classes on each of the four days.
Brownstown Art Camp for First and Second Graders
New this year is a three day camp to be held at Lutheran Central School in Brownstown for students who have just finished grades one or two. This is a three day camp to be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, July 13, 14, and 15 from 9:00 to 12:00 each day. The incredible news is that this camp is absolutely free to Brownstown area students. The camp is being funded entirely by the Brownstown Fund for the Arts. It should also be pointed out that this is an “introductory offer” and it is very unlikely that the same camp will be available for free next year. Please click on the link below for the camp application. Please mail or bring the application to the Art Center located at 2001 North Ewing Street in Seymour (hours noon to 5:00 Tuesday through Saturday). This is a Southern Indiana Center for the Arts Art Camp funded by the Brownstown Fund for the Arts. There is a limit of 30 students.
